Good afternoon – or evening, as it seems is the case in this time. I am Druella Rosier of June 1946, a seventh year Slytherin previously undergoing the process of sitting the N.E.W.T. examinations before my arrival here. While I recognize only a few names in these pages thus far, I hope to rectify that situation shortly.

I am aware that many individuals are from times far into my future and so I am requesting that those related to me, should you be here at this time, identify yourselves privately so I will know who each of you are, what reality you hail from if such distinctions are necessary and whatever else you feel moved to share at this time. I assure you, I am fully aware of the risks of asking, but it is my wish to obtain any necessary knowledge of my future from the right sort of individuals.

Forgive my boldness, but I feel it important to mention that I will not look kindly on public proclamations of relationships or future facts in response to this, as I am certain there are those who have expressed a disinterest in knowing the future who might stumble upon the words unawares.

[ PRIVATE TO SELF ]

After several hours perusing this journal, which I felt was the wiser course of action than just jumping right in to this newfound madness, I believe I have the measure of things. Or, perhaps more accurately, at least the idea of the basics. There are some familiar names in these pages and I have to admit, it will be a comfort should these individuals prove to be the ones I know in my own time. I just wish Cecelia's name would appear, but as of yet, I have seen no sign of it.

I wonder if my future relations will be of only one specific generation, such as future children, or further still such as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I find the knowledge daunting but necessary to face this situation, as I will not have revelations sprung upon me at various intervals. I will know now and thus be far better prepared for the other challenges of this place.

One point of some consternation for me is that there appears to be a worrisome lack of manners and propriety from those of the future in regards to how they address those of that past. I know I will not tolerate being spoken to in such a fashion and I am fully prepared to deal with anyone who should see fit to display their lack of manners near me to carry on about things they believe they know.

I have already seen a rat and dispatched with it, despite the task being absolutely disgusting. I do hope those of my house have seen to exterminating vermin and other pests from the common room and dormitories, as it would show a sincere lack of initiative it they have not. I lament my trunk being in my room when this occurred, I suppose it is too much to hope it was somehow brought back with me? At least I have my bag, though I will soon need to create more paint.

While I was initially uncertain about the usefulness of connected journals, which only grew from uncertainty to distaste when witnessing the base antics for which they have been recently used, they have grown as forum used by more than the dredges of wizarding society. Given that, I see no reason that they not be a forum in which certain events should be shared to gain the most exposure.

The number of reservations for the masquerade ball have reached a record high for this particular event. I attribute this success, with great thanks, to the article the lovely Miss Skeeter recently published on children's charities and the charitable works of philanthropic families during the fall season.

As the week prior to this will be an exceptionally busy one, I believe having the seamstress conduct her final fittings for us at once will be the best use of our valuable time. Provided that this suits the both of you, I do need to know quite soon what day and time is best for all.
